An example wheel of life

Over and over again I hear about the need for “Life Balance”. But what does Life Balance actually mean?

It means different things to different people. It's a very subjective assessment of where you are in your life, what you're doing with your life and where you want to go.

Taking a snapshot of where you are today in the different areas of your life is a very useful starting point for stimulating change. It gives you a starting point to discuss coaching from. It gives you a pictorial representation of your life, and it gives you a benchmark to return to a few weeks or months from now to see how your life has changed.

A balanced life is one with very little or no negative stressors. A balanced life is one where you feel you have time for everything you want to have in your life. Time for work, time for play, time for family and friends, and time for yourself and your own personal development.

To complete your own Life Balance Wheel, decide how satisfied you are with each area of your life. Rate that level of satisfaction on a scale of 0 to 10, where 0 is absolutely no satisfaction – everything about that life area is wrong, and a rating of 10 is where you are totally satisfied – everything in that life area is perfect. Enter your ratings in the boxes, and press submit.

Your personal Life Balance Wheel will then be returned to you which you can print out and keep for future reference.
